The short answer first
We don’t offer Korean perms at MG Hair Studios — and we’d rather tell you that up front than book you for the wrong service. But this page ranks because thousands of people in Miami are asking the same question you are, so here’s the honest version: what a Korean perm actually is, who it works for, who it disappoints, and what we offer instead when what you really want is hair that behaves.
What a Korean perm is
A Korean perm (also called a K-perm or Korean wave perm) is a soft, natural-looking perm style popularized in South Korea. On short hair it typically means loose, airy waves or a gentle volume lift at the roots — movement that looks grown-out and effortless rather than curly. It’s usually done with larger rods and a milder solution than a traditional perm, and the result is texture and body, not tight curls.
Who it tends to work for — and who it doesn’t
- Works best on: healthy, untreated or minimally treated hair that is naturally straight and fine-to-medium, where the goal is soft movement.
- Often disappointing on: bleached, heavily highlighted, or fragile hair (perm solution and lightener are a bad mix), and on anyone expecting wash-and-go perfection — permed hair still needs styling and the right products.
Results typically last 2–4 months and grow out softly.
What most people actually want (and what we do instead)
When clients describe a Korean perm to us, nine times out of ten the words underneath are: “I want my hair to be smoother, less frizzy, and easier to style in Miami humidity.” That’s not a perm problem — that’s a smoothing problem, and it’s exactly what we do:
- Keratin treatment ($200–$400): our signature smoothing service. It reduces frizz, cuts blow-dry time, and leaves hair glossy and manageable for months — on short hair too. Learn more about our keratin treatment.
And if it’s the soft-wave look you love, our stylists can build that shape with a cut designed for your texture plus a styled finish — no chemicals, no commitment.
Not sure which camp you’re in? That’s what a consultation is for. We’ll look at your hair’s history and tell you straight whether a perm (with a salon that offers one) or a smoothing treatment is the better road. Keratin clients take home the Brazilian Blowout take-home system to keep results going.
